The first weekly notebook of the 2021 boys’ high school lacrosse season is here. The 2021 season is sure to be notable for the obvious reasons, but also because already this season, we’re seeing notable player performances and coaches reaching milestones.
Leesville Road (N.C.) defeated Millbrook (N.C.) 16-5 on Feb. 24 to earn Head Coach Franklin Zirkle the 200th win of his high school coaching career. That victory makes Zirkle the 10th reported coach in state history to reach at least 200 career wins. Zirkle is 79-23 since taking over the Pride program in 2015. He went 121-25 as Head Coach at East Chapel Hill from 2005 to 2011.
Defending Florida state champ Ponte Vedra (Fla.) is off to a 3-0 start. In a 13-6 win over Monteverde Academy (Fla.), sophomore Cory Bloss led the team with four goals. The face-off duo of Avi Israel & Lad Harper won 17 out of 20 face-offs while junior goalie Nolan Parlette (Air Force) made 16 saves.
Allatoona (Ga.) is off to a 5-0 start after defeating defending 6A/7A champion Walton (Ga.) on Feb. 25. The Buccaneers have a highly-anticipated matchup with Roswell (Ga.), which is 4-1, on March 3.
The Texas high school lacrosse season is still ramping up, with the usual top-tier teams having a handful of games played between them. Defending Division I champion Episcopal Dallas (Texas) is 1-1 on the year after starting on Feb. 23. They opened with a 13-6 loss against IMG National (Fla.), but rebounded 10-8 against Vandegrift. They face Highland Park (Texas), which is also 1-1 on March 2. Dallas Jesuit (Texas) is 1-0 after a 19-0 win over Plano West (Texas). The Woodlands (Texas) has the best start at 3-0.
IMG National is off to a 5-0 start after facing a quintet of teams in Texas. They came away with notable wins over Highland Park, Episcopal Dallas and Westlake (Texas), Southlake (Texas), and Coppell (Texas).
Standout Performances of the Week

Bentonville (Ark.) senior co-captain attack Henry Goetze led the way offensively with eight assists and six goals on the weekend, including four goals and three assists against Blue Valley Southwest (Kan.) on Saturday, February 27.
Senior Matt Morgenroth had totaled 17 points in back-to-back nights for Dacula (Ga.) last week. On Feb. 23, Morgenroth totaled eight points on seven goals and an assist. He followed that up the next night with nine points with another seven goals and two assists. Morgenroth has 29 points with 25 goals through four games this season.
