Gavin Schulz, a 2021 midfielder from Durham Academy has made a verbal commitment to play Division III lacrosse with Franklin & Marshall.
Schulz earned All-Conference Honorable Mention as a sophomore in 2019. He also earned Varsity Captain status as a junior and a senior.
“It came down to academics, team, and location. Of the schools that I was considering, Franklin & Marshall’s academics fit me and my goals the best because they have a distinguished pre-health program and a great list of majors and minors to choose from. Furthermore, their academic advising and alumni connections will be perfect for me as a student and post-grad,” Schulz said. “As for the team, I felt welcomed by the coaches as soon as I stepped on campus for the first time, and given the team’s track record, they are high level and perfect for what I was looking for. Also, Shadek Stadium is the best facility in all of D-III. As a native North Carolinian, most of the schools I was looking at were excessively far away from my hometown and away from a city. Franklin & Marshall is located perfectly on the outskirts of Lancaster, so I got the college town/city that I wanted while still only being 5-6 hours from home.”
Schulz plays club lacrosse with Carolina Hilltoppers. He was also considering Kenyon, Dickinson and Middlebury.
“Ask for honesty and transparency from the coaches who are recruiting you. They won’t be offended if you ask them where you fall within the rest of their recruiting class or how long it will take you to get off the bench once you are there,” Schulz said of his top takeaway from his recruiting process. “Also, it’s better to know that as a player going in then to find out where you stand when you are already on campus and it is too late.”
Schulz is the second player reported to LaxRecords to have committed to Franklin & Marshall in the Class of 2021.
