Matthew Bagatta, a 2021 attackman from Hershey has made a verbal commitment to play Division II lacrosse with Walsh University.
Bagatta was a member of Hershey’s 2019 PIAA District III championship team and helped lead his team to the 2019 PIAA Class 2A State championship. As a sophomore in 2018, he scored 12 points on nine goals and three assists.
“I chose Walsh University because it is a great Catholic university and the Deville Business School has a lot to offer,” Bagatta said. “I am very impressed with the campus, the new athletic fields, the entrepreneur center, and Coach Skvarch and the rest of the lacrosse coaching staff. I am very excited to attend this school!”
Bagatta plays club lacrosse with Team Maryland. He was also considering Franciscan University, and St. Vincent’s Latrobe.
“Ever since I watched my older brother step on the field for the first time, I instantly wanted to play. The speed and excitement really drew my attention. As a kid it was just a really fun sport I played, but as I grew up, it developed into a real passion for me. I would not be the lacrosse player I am today without the help of many people. Many thanks go to my Hershey Youth Lacrosse coaches, Coach Mark West, Coach Geoff Bohlander, Coach Tom Kondracki, and Coach Jeff Gatano, for teaching me the basics in lacrosse as well as pushing me beyond them,” Bagatta said. “I want to thank the coaches of my Team Maryland Lacrosse Club, Coach Dale Kowatch, Coach Arthur Smith, and Coach Brad Barber, for helping me get to the next level. My gratitude also goes out to my five siblings. They have always been there for me whenever I needed someone to pass and shoot with. They are great fans and my best friends! Special thanks go to my brother, Patrick, whose time and effort shaped me to be the best lacrosse player I can be. He has always been the best personal coach that a brother could have. Lastly, I wanted to thank my parents, Kevin and Karla Bagatta, for giving me their time and effort to get me to every lacrosse game and practice. They have truly been my No. 1 fans throughout the years. The reason I have been successful is because of my parents and I cannot thank them enough! Behind many great lacrosse players, are great parents.”
Bagatta is the first player reported to LaxRecords.com to have committed to Walsh University.
