St. John’s picked up a verbal commitment from Cuthbertson 2022 midfielder Casey Hurley.
Hurley scored 28 points in 2019 on 10 goals and 15 assists. He added 31 ground balls that season in only seven games before an ankle injury curtailed his season.
“St. Johns offered everything I was looking for in a school. A strong business program, nationally competitive conference and its location in one of the top metro area’s in the country,” Hurley said. “It’s the perfect mix of academics, athletics, and career opportunities in one location.”
Hurley plays club lacrosse with Team 24/7. He was also considering Binghamton, High Point, and Mercer.
The junior was a member of the Philly NXT 2022 championship team in 2019. He is a Maverick Showcase attendee and a starting midfielder as a Freshman for Cuthbertson last season. In 2020, he earned a spot on the Inside Lacrosse Invitational All-Tournament Team and was selected to compete in the 2020 North Carolina Powerade Games.
“Be confident in your abilities, have fun on the field, and continue to stay focused on your goals. I ended up committing to a school I never even thought of going into my recruitment! St. Johns was not even on my initial list of schools, but was first to reach out to me on September 1,” Hurley said of his top takeaway from his recruiting process.
“After our first call I was interested in learning more and we set a zoom call up with my parents. That presentation of the virtual school tour, school of business overview, team approach, and conference affiliation had me hooked! The final piece was hearing how excited the coaches were about me and the school being located in New York City. For a school I knew almost nothing about to it hitting all the requirements I was looking for in a school was eye-opening, to say the least!”
Hurley is the first player reported to LaxRecords.com to have committed to St. John’s. He is the sixth Class of 2022 player from North Carolina.
