John Hartzell, a Class of 2022 face-off midfielder from Rye (N.Y.) has verbally committed to play Division I lacrosse with Colgate.
As a freshman in 2019, Hartzell was a key member of Rye’s Section 1 Class C championship team. In the Section 1 Class C title game against Byram Hills (N.Y.), Hartzell went 14-for-19 at the dot and earned Player of the Game by LoHud.com. The victory was Rye’s first championship since 2008.
“I am honored to be able to choose Colgate because of the great academic and athletic traditions, and the great coaching staff,” Hartzell said.
Hartzell plays club lacrosse with Predators Lacrosse.
Hartzell earned a spot on the Under Armour Underclass CONNY team and a spot on The Players Series Showcase All-Tournament team in 2020. honors last season. He also earned a bronze medal with Team USA U20 Indoor Lacrosse at the 2019 World Championships.
Hartzell is the second player reported to LaxRecords.com to have committed to Colgate. He adds his name to a growing list of New Yorkers who have made their Division I decisions. The Empire state leads the way with 34 Division I commits at the time of this writing.
