Senior attackman Matt Adams has been leading St. Andrew’s (Fla.) all season. The senior has 62 points (21 goals, 41 assists) thus far. The Scots won their district championship last week and entered the FHSAA State playoffs with a 12-4 record.
In the Scots District Semifinal win over American Heritage - Delray (Fla.) Adams put up six points (4g,2a). Adams then helped the Scots win the district title over Boca Raton (Fla.), punching a ticket to the state tournament.
Storyline of The Week
A big storyline across the South last week was the playoffs. While Florida got the postseason underway, Louisiana had their tournament bracket finalized. The rest of the South is looking forward to the playoffs with just one or two weeks left in the season.
In South Carolina, the SCHSL 4A and 5A playoffs are down to the semifinals.
In the 4A Playoffs, it’s pretty chalky, besides Greenville (S.C.) who came in as the No. 7 seed and has run through everyone, including Academic Magnet (S.C.) who was the No. 2 seed. Greenville plays No. 3 Oceanside Collegiate (S.C.) in the semifinals. No. 1 A.C. Flora (S.C) and No. 4 Bishop England (S.C.) meet in the other semifinal matchup.
In the 5A playoffs, No. 2 Dorman (S.C.) plays No. 1 Fort Mill (S.C.), and No. 3 Dutch Fork (S.C.) plays No. 1 Wando (S.C.) in the semifinals.
Florida finished up their district tournaments last week, and the state playoffs begin Friday. While the district tournaments were pretty chalky as expected, there are a few good first round matchups in the FHSAA state tournament.
Above all, the most significant first-round matchup is Oxbridge Academy (Fla.) vs. St. Andrew’s (Fla.) on April 25. Jupiter (Fla.) plays St. Edward’s (Fla.) on April 26.
Heavy favorite Ponte Vedra (Fla.) opens with Providence School (Fla.) and could face either Lake Mary (Fla.) or St. Augustine (Fla.) in the second round.
Team of The Week
Lake Norman (N.C.) finished their regular season on an eight-game winning streak. The Wildcats enter playoff mode with a 14-2 record that includes wins over some of the top teams in the South, such as Centennial (Ga.) and Christ School (N.C.).
Last week Lake Norman finished their regular season with an 11-5 win over Marvin Ridge (N.C.) and an 18-3 win Pine Lake Prep (N.C.).
Eye-Opening Performance
Roane County Knights (Tenn.) junior goalie Lucas Goldschmitt had one of his best performances of the season last week in Knights 11-4 loss against Knoxville Catholic (Tenn.). He made 21 saves in the loss.
