Bussy Adam, Massachusetts all-time wins leader, announced he is stepping down as the boy’s lacrosse head coach, according to WickedLocal.com.
Adam won 457 games since taking over the Newton North program in 1987. He leads Massachusetts in victories, three ahead of Hingham (Mass.) head coach John Todd.
“He was Newton lacrosse for the past 39-plus years,” North athletic director Tom Giusti said on Monday, “as a player, an assistant coach, the head coach, with youth lacrosse. In this city, when you spoke about lacrosse it was: ‘Bussy Adam and lacrosse, or lacrosse and Bussy Adam.’
Adam won three state championships during his tenure. He led the Tigers to Division I titles in 1993, 1995 and 1996. He took the team to the Division I championship game in 1997.
A successor has not been announced.
