A pair of heavyweight matchups in Florida and Georgia highlight this week’s LaxRecords.com High School Lacrosse Notebook.
Each Tuesday, I highlight players, teams, coaches and games that caught my attention.

Alex Walker, the LaxRecords.com Player of the Week, helped the Longhorns to victory with seven goals in the game. Walker scored five of his goals in the first half, which helped Lambert take a 9-7 lead into halftime.
It was a team effort in the win as 10 players posted points in the victory. Player of the Year candidate, Eric Overbay dished out six assists and scored one goal in the win. Junior Phillip White won 20 of 32 faceoffs, which helped the Longhorns dominant in the second half when they scored 11 goals. Meeting of Titans
In a meeting of Florida powerhouses, Ponte Vedra (Fla.) defeated IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) 15-13 on Saturday. The Sharks were led by a host of players, four of which scored at least three goals in the victory. Clay Welch led the team with seven points (5 goals, 2 assists) followed by Reid Smith, CD James and Jack Burke who all scored three. James added two assists while Smith and Burke each had one. Matt Keeler had two assists and one goal in the victory.
Ponte Vedra went up 8-2 early and were led by stellar play in goal by Wyatt Schupler. IMG cut the lead to one goal in the four quarter, but the Sharks scored a man-up goal and then won the face-off. They were able to kill the last three minutes to hold on for the win.
The win capped a 3-0 week for Ponte Vedra, which is arguably the favorite to win the FHSAA title this season. IMG Academy entered the game with a 20 game winning streak and had just defeated St. Andrew’s (Boca Raton, Fla.) 15-11 on Friday. The Ascenders had also defeated Oxbridge Academy (Boca Raton, Fla.) this season and have not faced a team with a sub .500 record.

Ponte Vedra’s schedule does not let up. They face Bartram Trail (St. Johns, Fla.) at home, followed by road games at Jupiter (Fla.) and Gulliver Prep (Pinecrest, Fla.) this week. The start next week with a game against one of Colorado’s best teams in Mountain Vista (Highlands Ranch, Colo.). The Sharks have a seven game winning streak and won 30 of their last 31 games.

Bohmer scored six goals, including the game-winning goal with 30 seconds remaining to lead the Cougars to victory. The win improved Charlotte Catholic’s record to 3-0 on the year.
