While LaxRecords.com was started as a place to house the history of boys’ high school lacrosse, there are a lot of performances that do not make the lists. But those performances deserved to be highlighted.
Each Monday, I’ll highlight players, teams, coaches and games that caught my attention.
It was a week of great first impressions around the southeast. Two players making their first high school lacrosse varsity starts got off to stellar beginnings.
Woodward Academy (College Park, Ga.) freshman Eric Malever scored nine goals and dished out four assists in his varsity debut on Feb. 15. The University of Maryland commit amassed his 13 points in a 19-9 win over Fellowship Christian (Ga.). He followed that up with seven goals and one assist in his second varsity start, a 20-3 win over Baylor (Chattanooga, Tenn.). He helped Eagles to a 20-3 win over Baylor (Chattanooga, Tenn.).Malever was an Under Armor Underclass selection last year.
Sophomore Will Ware made 23 saves for First Presbyterian Day (Macon, Ga.) in a 21-16 loss to Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy (Ga.) on Feb. 14. The game was Ware’s first varsity start.

Immokalee (Fla.) senior Marc Galindo earned LaxRecords.com Player of the Week last week and kept up his hot play. The attackman scored five goals in a 7-4 win over Naples (Fla.) on Thursday. It was the first time Immokalee has defeated Naples in program history. The senior needs just 23 points to reach 200 for his career.
Zack Pacheco from Marist (Atlanta, Ga.) and a Georgetown commit, scored the game-winning goal in the final 30 seconds of an 11-10 win over Cambridge (Milton, Ga.) on Feb. 16. The 2019 graduate scored four goals and had one assist in the victory. Pacheco is coming off a freshman season in which he posted 83 ground balls, 47 goals and 16 assists.
Last week, LaxRecords unveiled its Player of the Year Watch with the first wave of players under consideration. This week, I got my hands on some video of one of those players, Brad Baker from Tampa Jesuit (Tampa, Fla.). Baker, a Holy Cross commit, is in his first season with Tampa after leading Long Island in assists last season. The video below is from the Feb. 11 game against Barron Collier (Naples, Fla.), in which Baker had three assists and two goals.
Time to watch: 35 seconds.
