LaxRecords.com continues with its Looking Ahead series with its Maryland High School Lacrosse Underclassmen to Watch for 2017. This is an early look at just some of the players who were among their team’s leading scorers or made All-State as an underclassman.
This is not a recruiting list of top players, instead reflects some of the players who led or were among the team’s top scorers from last season and/or made Maryland State Lacrosse Coaches’ Association (MSCLA) All-State team and return in 2017.

2017 Underclassmen to Watch
Kyle Berkeley, Calverton (Huntingtown, Md.), M, 2017, Drexel
Berkeley earned Second Team MSCLA All-State honors last season. He helped the Cougars to a 13-6 record. Berkeley scored 66 goals with nine assists last season.
Mark Conway, Liberty (Eldersburg), A, 2017
Conway helped Liberty reach the Class 2A/1A championship last season. He totaled 85 points with 51 goals and 34 assists. He scored two goals in the championship game against eventual champion Fallston.
JT Bugliosi, Calvert Hall (Baltimore), A, 2017, Ohio State
Bugliosi led Calvert Hall in goals with 46. The Ohio State commit earned MSCLA Second Team All-State honors. He helped Calvert Hall to a 14-5 record last season.
Kyle Dizon, South Carroll (Sykesville, Md.), A, 2017
Dizon helped the Cavaliers to a 9-7 record last year. The senior tallied 33 assists on the season.
Greg Ey, Boys’ Latin (Baltimore), M, 2017, Penn State
Ey was one of two Boys’ Latin face-off men to earn Second Team All-State honors last season. Ey was listed as Recruiting Rundown’s Top 75 sophomores in 2014. He’s been a selection to Nike’s The Ride event and helped the Lakers to the MIAA A championship game.
Ryan Figueiras, St. Mary’s Ryken (Leonardtown, Md.), A, 2017
Figueiras led all known underclassmen with 60 goals last season. He added 13 assists to finish with 73 points.
Andrew Fowler, Landon, D, 2017, Cornell
Fowler helped a Bears’ defense that allowed double-digits in goals just six times last season. One of several returnees for 2017 that earned All-State honors for Landon. Fowler was a Second Team All-State selection.
Joey Garland, South Hagerstown (Hagerstown, Md.), G, 2017
Garland led all known goalies with 269 saves last season. He led Washington County in save percentage (.634) in his second season as the starting goalie. He earned All-County First Team honors.
Jake Glatz, Boys’ Latin, F/O, 2017, Penn State
Glatz earned Second Team All-State all-state honors after helping Boys’ Latin reach the MIAA A Conference championship game. He is committed to Penn State.
Cullen Joyce, Severna Park (Md.), D, 2017, Monmouth
Joyce racked up the honors last season. He was a Public School All-State and All-County selection for the state championship team. He had two ground balls and one caused turnover in the 9-3 win over Howard in the title game.
Jordan Kopf, Annapolis (Md.), M, 2017
Kopf earned Public School All-State last season. He was selected as the Capital Gazette’s Athlete of the Week on April 18 after posting a week in which he scored a combined nine goals in wins over Old Mill, North Harford and Arundel.
Colin Miller, Calverton (Huntingtown), G, 2017, Navy
Miller posted 217 saves last season. He helped the Cougars to a 13-6 record.
Reed Moshyedi, Winston Churchill (Potomac, Md.), M, 2018, Brown
Moshyedi earned Public School All-State as a sophomore. He was also chosen to the Washington, D.C. Highlight Division team at the Under Armour Underclassmen games. He scored 37 goals as a freshman for the Bulldogs. He followed that up with a 71-point season last year with 41 goals.
Jack Parr, McDonogh (Owings Mills, Md.), A, 2017, Brown
Parr scored 45 goals for the Eagles last season. The Brown commit was Co-MVP of the MIAA Championship game.
Trevor Patschorke, Severna Park (Severna Park), A, 2017
Patschorke was second among underclassmen with 56 goals last season. The UMBC commit amassed 71 points for the Class 4A/3A state champions. He earned MSCLA Public School All-State honors.
Evan Riss, Oakland Mills (Columbia, Md.), LSM/D, 2017, Ohio State
Riss was a big reason for the Scorpions improvement last season. The senior totaled 43 assists to help Oakland Mills got 8-7 – up from 3-10 the previous year. Riss was chosen to the Baltimore Highlight Division team at the Under Armour Underclassmen games last summer.
Alex Rode, St. Paul’s (Brooklandville, Md.), G, 2017, Virginia
Rode set St. Paul’s single-season record with 258 saves last year. It’s an impressive feat, considering the list of goalies that have passed through the legendary program. Some of the all-time greats have played there since the mid-1930’s; including Edgar Boyd, Les Matthews, Bob Clements, Peter Sheehan, Scott Bacigalupo, Gunnar Waldt, and AJ Barretto. Rode earned First Team All-State honors for his season.
Justin Shockey, Landon, F/O, 2017, Navy
The Navy commit was a Second Team All-State selection last season. He made the Washington, D.C. Underclass Team in 2015 in addition to the 2015 Freestate Team.
Brandon Shure, McDonogh, D, 2017
Another returning defender to the Eagles championship squad. Shure was a MSLCA First Team selection.
Quinn Tallant, St. Maria Goretti (Hagerstown, Md.), A, 2017
Tallant finished tied for second in the state with 110 points last season. The senior finished just behind his brother, Mack, for points. He led the state with 61 assists. He scored 49 goals.
Alex Trippi, Jr., Bullis (Potomac, Md.), A, 2017
Trippi was third in the state with 104 points last year. He helped Bullis to the IAC championship team and earned Washington Post All-Met Player of the Year. Trippi scored 56 goals and had 48 assists. The North Carolina commit was named US Lacrosse Mid-Atlantic Player of the Year.
Dylan Wolf, Fallston (Md.), M, 2017
Wolf was a Public School All-State selection last year. He scored a goal and had one assist in the Cougars 12-5 win in the Class 2A/1A championship game.
2018 Underclassmen to Watch
Joey Epstein, Landon (Bethesda, Md.), A, 2018, Johns Hopkins
Epstein made headlines in 2014 when, at that time, he became the youngest D-I commit. Fast forward two years and he’s still in top form. He earned Second Team All-State honors and helped the Bears to a 17-4 record.
B.J. Farrare, McDonogh (Owings Mills), LSM, 2018, Loyola
Farrare helped anchor a defense that allowed more than nine goals only twice last season. The Loyola commit earned MSLCA First Team All-State honors.
Jordan Swoyer, Soph., Linganore (Frederick, Md.), A, 2018
Swoyer led the Lancers with 49 assists last season, helping the team to its second state championship in program history. The sophomore finished the year with 75 points, also good for second on the team.
Chris Yanchoris, Century (Sykesville), G, 2018
Yanchoris earned a spot on the Baltimore Highlight Division team at the Under Armour Underclassmen games last summer. He posted 223 saves and helped the Knights to a 12-5 record.
